Invisalign® is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, plastic tray aligners to gradually reposition and align your teeth.
Invisalign aligners are made of SmartTrack®, an FDA-approved thermoplastic. SmartTrack is free of all chemicals, including BPA, BPS, latex, and gluten making it safe for pregnant women and individuals with allergies.
Invisalign aligners are unlike traditional braces in that they’re removable. This allows you to eat your favorite foods and brush and floss like normal.
At Alexandria Dental Clinica, the team uses Invisalign to correct various alignment problems, including:
You might also benefit from Invisalign treatment if you have visible spaces or gaps between your teeth.
Invisalign treatment begins with a comprehensive in-office consultation. During your initial appointment, the team reviews your dental health history and asks about your goals for treatment. They then use an intraoral scanner to take digital impressions of your teeth and gums.
The team uploads your impressions to a computer-aided design (CAD) program. They use your impressions to map out the step-by-step movements of your teeth. After approving a plan, the team sends your impressions to a dental laboratory that creates your first set of custom aligners.
Throughout treatment, you return to Alexandria Dental Clinic every two or three months. At each appointment, we evaluate the fit, progress, and future treatment needs These are usually fairly short appointments.
The length of Invisalign treatment depends on your oral health history and goals. Most people achieve their desired outcome within 6-12 months. More complex orthodontic issues can take up to 18 months. After you’re finished with Invisalign, you transition to a retainer. A retainer is an oral appliance that keeps your teeth from shifting out of place.
To ensure Invisalign treatment goes smoothly, clean your aligners regularly. Rinse your aligners several times a day and brush them with a soft-bristle toothbrush before going to bed at night. For more thorough cleanings, ask the team about the Invisalign Cleaning System.
